What IP geolocation can estimate
IP geolocation databases associate address ranges with countries, regions, cities and network operators. They combine provider records, routing observations and other network data to produce an estimate.
Country-level results are often more dependable than city-level results, but accuracy varies by provider, address range and database. The coordinates shown on a map may represent a city center or network hub rather than a device location.
Why the wrong city appears
Internet providers can route customers through infrastructure in another city. Mobile carriers may use centralized gateways, and recently reassigned address ranges can retain outdated database records for a while.
VPNs and proxies intentionally make traffic appear to come from their server. Corporate networks may route several offices through one gateway, so employees in different places can share the same apparent location.

IP location is not GPS
A website can estimate location from an IP address without requesting device location permission. GPS and browser geolocation are different: they can use device sensors, nearby networks or location services and normally require explicit browser permission.
Global IP Lookup does not request GPS access. Its globe and coordinates visualize the approximate location returned for the public network address.
How to interpret the result
Use an IP location as a broad network clue. It can help confirm a VPN region, identify an unexpected country or understand which provider owns a connection.
Do not use it to identify a household, prove where a person is or make high-stakes decisions. Law enforcement and providers may have additional records, but a public lookup alone cannot supply that level of certainty.
